garbage disposal - loud

turns on OK, chews up waste OK, but when you turn off the switch, or allow it to go full RPM, sound like a bunch of metal bolts got thrown inside. Ive rooted around inside and dont feel anything out of the ordinary. Just wonder if one of the grinding teeth has came loose, or something. Going to eventually tear it down and take it apart, just wondering if anyone had any tips or pointers...

Re: garbage disposal - loud

Yeah, it could be anything that accidentally went down there but won't go down the drain. Could be something simple like a small piece of chicken bone or whatever.

Try inserting your shop-vac hose down there and see if it sucks up anything.

How old is it? Lot of use? If nothing stuck then it could be the bearings. They get noisy when they are starting to wear out. Check the crevices in the walls....could be a piece of a fruit pit or as other(s) have said maybe a bone.
