freezer fan excessive cycling

My side by side Kenmore 253 51693105 stopped cooling in the refrigerator. I figured the evaporator was freezing up. Got that right. Defrost timer suspected as problem. I removed the timer and re installed it because I didn't see anything obviously wrong such as wiring or other visible issues. I let it run on the high settings overnight and the fridge dropped to 45 but no lower. I have a digital to ck temp. Could th defrost still be faulty and maybe causing the cycling problem?
Thanks

Re: freezer fan excessive cycling

When that happened to mine, it was the defrost thermostat that was bad. Simple fix, and inexpensive part, but I had to remove all of the shelves. And the panel at the back of the freezer compartment (inside the freezer). Go to repairclinic.com put in your model #. They have videos on how to diagnose the problem, and how to make the repair.
