Flat stovetop in island

Friend of mine is buying a house. The owner put a stove in the center island, and this stove has a flat top. There is about 4 of countertop at the back of the unit. We need to find some way to block the stove from the backside of the island, because they have a foster baby and this is a safety issue. Any ideas?

Build a tall knee wall.

Use baby gates, somehow.

A picture will make it easier to advise you better, now we are throwing " mud" at it looking to see what sticks.

I do not fully appreciate the concern, whether a stove top is in an island or countertop it is accessible by definition...frontside, backside, side. A baby/human/aninmal has instincts and with some teaching will they not avoid touching a hot stove?

Uh, put up a temporary fence/wall around the back and wrap it around the sides of the cooktop? When the kid learns not to touch hot stuff, they can remove the fence.

It must be a tall baby to reach the stove.

Re: Flat stovetop in island

If the baby's a toddler to stand, one of the first and easiest words to teach and them to say is "hot" and "not hot."

An island rangetop is no different than a knife sitting on a counter, stuff in the cabinets/drawers, the oven door, or the fridge door.

A new parent will have to invest in a baby fence, baby gate, cabinet locks, door locks, outlet plugs, . . . . college, . . .
