Question

is this safe? - using this primer inside garage

going to use this to spot prime: BM Alkyd Primer, 024 - oil based in the garage on about a dozen boards set up on sawhorses just a few feet from the hot water tank - which is gas and has a pilot. The tech sheet says:

"Keep away from heat and flame. Use only with adequate ventilation."

There is an exhaust fan above the wood venting outside. Behind me is a window and there be a couple of fans blowing in and at the other end of the garage the door will be and i'll have a couple of fans blowing out.

i do have a really good respirator that i'll be using, i just don't want the fumes to be set off by the pilot. I don't think they will - but you all have way more experience with this than i do.

Is this safe to do?

Thanks,

Jim

Applying by brush would likely be ok. Don't know that I'd want to be spraying it.

If you want to spray it isn't a big deal to cut the gas off until you are done. The odds are the fumes and pilot flame won't be an issue but it's better to play it safe.

As SS stated, brushing will be fine - no issue with the pilot light.
