Paint colors - HELP!

Hi Friends

I'm trying to pick a paint color for a small apartment with skylights. The colors I picked are too dark I think, but it's impossible for me to "see" them correctly in the sea of white!

This place is in the treetops, so I thought a nice, neutral sagey green. But against the white plaster it just all looks to dark. Here are some photos. Please advise me!

Thank you!

Re: Paint colors - HELP!

Youre probably better off posting this in the interior decorating section, but I'll chime in. Definitely keep the ceiling white. When the walls are painted it will make more sense. Thats obviously a very bright white in there, and the green will make the room look a little smaller, but I dont think you need to worry too much. I would go with one of the lighter ones, though, but mossy greens always look good to me. Dont compare it to the white, picture it altogether. Worse case scenario, you repaint it a shade lighter. No biggie.

A lot of folks are surprised that a whole wall of color is so much darker than a sample so it might be better to go a little lighter than you initially think.

According to me, colours tend to have a psychological and physical impact on us. Why not you use white shade with blue tone or green tone.

Remember that darker colors multiply their reflection with each wall you paint. A single accent wall will darken a room and each other wall you paint dark will magnify that darkness. A color that looked wonderful to you on a sample can turn out being way too dark once all the walls have it on them.

Add to that the heavy shadows cast by the skylights and the flooring and you might find yourself ending up with a cavelike room.

Re: Paint colors - HELP!

It depends on how much light is in the room as well. With skylights and stuff, I think you can get away with a darker color. I've painted rooms siilar colors to those, and they looked great. Its hard to tell from the picture if yours are darker than the ones Ive used, though, so its hard to say.
