We Will Never Forget September 11, 2001

We Will Never Forget September 11, 2001-neverforget2.jpg

We will never forget...

I also want to remember how we came together as a country the following day. We weren't Democrats or Republicans, Liberals or Conservatives. We were simply human beings coming together, united as one. We were Americans.

This thread is not intended for political rhetoric. If you feel the need to make it controversial, take it to the controversial section. In this thread, we will remember those we lost.

Re: We Will Never Forget September 11, 2001

My SIL (who has since died in a traffic accident) was working in an adjacent building and while evacuating at street level she stopped for a moment to watch people trapped on the upper floors, they joined hands in groups of 2 to 4 and jumped to their death to avoid the flames. Those images were literally burned into her mind and she was never able to forget. And as the line says, we should never forget.

Yeah.

Remember, too.

But don't exploit.

Had a friend, an attorney on the 85th floor of the north tower first to get hit.

Oh, yeah, he lived and remembered.

I lost a cousin in that. Also one of the few subjects that I'll rage block folks on forums over. If someone doesn't get that people are angry/hurt/ect over something like this - they ain't worth talking to.

We remember it in Canada too.

I remember exactly where I was ( at work ). I saw it on the airport type TV screens we had on the walkways at the Convention Center I worked at. Terrible event.

We also helped take care of the 224 stranded airline flights in 4 hrs that got diverted to Gander, Newfoundland. Apparently there is quite a kinship amongst the people we helped and they keep in touch with the locals.

Amazing logistical endeavor that was and Discovery Channel has a show about it today.

My hubby lived next door to this family growing up. His Dad
was the NYC Fire Chief.

Today we remember Captain William Burke. He always
wanted to be a fireman like his Dad.

Re: We Will Never Forget September 11, 2001

My friend was an attorney and his office was on the 85th floor of the north tower, the first one to be hit.

He'd gotten into the office early, and was pecking at his laptop. His practice focuses on securities issues, and he was at "ground zero" for that, soon to be another.

The entire building shook when the plane hit. "WTF was that?" was his first thought. Keep in mind the WTC towers were, aside from being tall, also huge side-wise; each floor, in each tower, was an acre, roughly square. It took a big hit to make a building like that shake.

The alarms went off, and the PA said stay put and await instructions. He decided to leave, and went down the steps, joined by a throng of others.

It took about 45 minutes to descend. By that time, the other tower was on fire.

He ran up the street, like everyone else, after the collapse of the second tower, then went uptown to midtown, then got a ride back home to New Jersey.

I have a friend in the palm society who lived in Long Island (called himself "____ from Long Island") and he was right downwind from the fire that burned and burned and burned for what was it? Five weeks? Awful smell of burnt, all the time.

And, Fidel Castro (remember him?) who was not by any stretch any bud of ours, nevertheless offered his condolences.

And, I remember how the good people of New Smyrna Tenn. bought, paid for and sent a new fire truck to NYC to replace one that had been destroyed. I recall that NYFD still has it.

Re: We Will Never Forget September 11, 2001

I went through 4 communities to work today. Each community had a fire truck with an American Flag draped on the truck. Except for 1 town, they had 2 trucks outside draped with a flag. Made me proud.

I do not know how many communities sent trucks and man-power to help with the search and rescue and the body recovery. I think Seattle sent people and dogs to New York.
