Re: Long Cool Woman

Disturbed did a WAY better job with far more emotion. Not even a close call!!!!

Sound of silence is a solemn song, but Simon and Garfunkle actually put an upbeat tone to most of their version.

Yeah, I get shivers down the spine and a bit teary with each version, but I think disturbed takes it.

When you listen to the Simon and Garfunkle version, you actually feel like they're smiling while performing. The tone doesn't match the words.

I remember listening to the original version, and liking it....but Disturbed just totally knocked it out of the park!!!

David Draiman (lead singer, Disturbed) is a pretty impressive and talented character. You wouldn't know it just by looking at him but he studied in a Jewish school, went to law school, has a BA in Pol. science, and of course has just an incredible range to his voice

Re: Long Cool Woman

I'm late to get to a family dinner, so maybe @Bob Sanders can pull this up, but another example is "Behind Blue Eyes" done by The Who and covered by Limp Bizkit.

I love the Who, but Limp Bizkit did a great cover of this song and did a better job of the original. Find a copy of the original and cover.

Re: Long Cool Woman

There were only a few times where I liked the cover version better. They are Hendrix's version of Dylan's All Along The Watchtower - Isaac Hayes version of Dione Warwick's Walk On By & maybe Talking Head's version of Al Green's Take Me To The River.

I'm sure that most of you know the originals. I used Tiny URL because I hate the way the forum posts those huge PICs of the youtube videos.

Re: Long Cool Woman

I guess I'm too old fashioned and like things the way they were, but it is difficult to improve on Simon and Garfunkel's version of Sounds of Silence. In reality, it is two different songs with the same words, IMO. Two different artists and two different renditions. I just like the original better.

Re: Long Cool Woman

I think I memorized all the music and lyrics to S&G songs back in the day. It isn't that old, but when I travel to see kids in Denver, I take my Ipod to listen on the plane. JUST enough Bob Seger, CCR, CSN&Y to make the trip pleasant.

Re: Long Cool Woman

Bob Seger is a classy guy and I love all his music.

I like most of Bruce Springfield's stuff. I also like Ry Cooder. He did the music for the movie Streets of Fire.

A bit eclectic but a very talented musician. I also like Steve Earle.
