Re: I really get tired of PETA

At least this crab made it back to the sea and not the cooking pot.

The dog was kinda impeding his progress though.

That might be a ghost crab. They can get really tall. I put one in my salt water aquarium, once, & he climbed out & headed downstairs. To the water, like the one in the video.

Don't get between a hippo & the water, btw.

Re: I really get tired of PETA

PETA is too extreme - completely opposing the use of animals for food and all medical research. Even though in reality the vegan diet can't possibly be healthy with it's lack of b12 and complete protein.

I bet a lot of PETA members benefit from drugs, supplements or insulin originally tested on and or originally derived from animals. The first thyroid replacement was directly from pigs, same for insulin.

Taking extreme positions and doing publicity stunts simply hurts the cause; no one takes them seriously.

There are definitely problems with the way animals are raised and killed -> they're kept in filthy conditions indoors and fed grains, antibiotics, hormones. They get sick and have no quality of life. Egg laying hens are in cages so small they can't move.

Chickens are initially held upside down before being stunned, and sometimes the stun fails and they get cut live and bleed to death.

Kosher/halal slaughterhouses are exempt from all of the normal rules including the requirement to stun before killing.

There are better ways to do things, for example, they have co2 gas stunning for poultry.

Animal testing, a whole other can of worms; we can never fully eliminate it, but certainly reduce the need for it, using tissue cultures instead for certain tests like checking to see how corrosive a substance is.

A friend of a friend is a PETA member. He won't even kill ants or spiders that get into his house. He'll scoop them up with a paper cup or whatever, and "set them free" outside. Isn't that special!
Ask him about all the insects and animals are killed to clear the land to grow the veg/vegan food he must consume.

Everything can be obtained from a vegan diet.

Re: I really get tired of PETA

Humans were never meant to be veggies, but in this age there seem to be a lot of people who don't understand what nature had in mind.

A good place for the PETA group would be in the ocean teaching the sharks to eat seaweed.

On the topic of "better fish to fry" in regards to what PETA should be doing, I did a quick search and didn't get any hits saying those bleeding hearts had contributed an ounce of effort to supporting those fire fighters out west. Expected to at least see them tending to the animal victims, maybe I just didn't look hard enough? Or maybe they weren't there, that would be doing something positive.

As user said "Taking extreme positions and doing publicity stunts simply hurts the cause; no one takes them seriously." Their activities here in Maine have definitely moved them into the "joke" category.

That's funny, how do I grow a "T-Bone steak in my garden?"

Answer, feed the garden to a long horn and eat him.

Re: I really get tired of PETA

Vegans live longer healthier lives. They also don't suffer from erectile
dysfunction to anywhere near the same degree.
Eat high amounts of meat & dairy and increase your chances of cancer,
heart disease, you name it. But feel free to do so anyways, not like I
care about rednecks health.

Hey @Cricket , shouldn't a PETA argument be in controversial?

It's not overly political. As long as it doesn't get heated i think it should stay here.

Not B12, that's only found in animal products so vegans must supplement. Which is proof that the vegan diet isn't something we are naturally adapted to, it can only work with supplements.

I was nearly vegan for a few years, so called healthy diet, wasn't consuming animal products except egg (was brainwashed) for a few years and was deficient. It took months of taking high dose supplements and consuming animal products to bring it back up to normal levels.

Was vegetarian even years before cutting dairy and had lots of soy. Went downhill the entire time, I'm sure the veg/almost vegan diet was a major factor.

I'm sure i was missing a lot nutrients in forms that are easy to absorb; plus the anti-nutrients and estrogen in the soy probably didn't do me any good; I've probably done permanent damage.

You have to be skeptical of claims that veg/vegan diet is healthy - correlation is not causation. Vegetarians and vegans are very health conscious and wealthier, so better outcomes in some cases may be attributed to not smoking, not living in poverty, getting exercise.

That's correct, but also trivial.

Re: I really get tired of PETA

I believe if God gave us cattle and pigs deer and moose and fish and lobsters they were meant to be eaten not for pets.

Therefore the human body is designed to be a meat eater plus have cereals/grains and fish and milk etc.

Everything in moderation of course.

One thing I believe man was NOT meant to consume is Light Beer. Yuck.
