Cool

Spicewood Texas, Rich Schmitt

Hi,

Kinda a DIY but not really.

We're trying to build an airbnb/future retirement place in Spicewood Texas (outside of Austin). We have a 1ac slopped lot overlooking Lake Travis. Beautiful 180 degree view from the lot.

What we have in mind is hybrid steel/ stick home. I'll post in the construction forum more details. I guess you could say I want to be the DIY contractor. What I'm most interested in learning is from folks who have done something similar. By hybrid, I'm talking about a 32 x 24' steel structure on a slab. What we want to do is build a house within a house. We want to build 2 bedrooms and a bath out of sticks and have a loft on top.

To us, this just makes such great sense. We'll keep the steel part raw. Exposed conduits and vents. Seems pretty straight forward to me. Is there some gotcha I'm not thinking about?

@rschmitt welcome!

And put your location in your profile so we'll know where yat when you ask a question. Some advice is location specific, especially as it relates to freezes or lack thereof.

Sounds like a righteously nice place!

I had a buddy who fled Northern Ohio, as I did, and roared off to Southern California, then, later, relocated to Accost'em i.e., Austin.

Visited back in 1990s, very nice.

Nice to meet'cha'll!
