Walking through Lowes lately, it looks like they are going to make Craftsman their premier hand tool line. At the end of practically every isle you see red Craftsman boxes.

Honestly I hope they can rebuild the brand to it's once high standards and expectations.

I doubt Craftsman will ever be the brand it once was. For decades any defective Craftsman hand tool could be taken to any Sears [without a receipt] and be replaced. Now that there are different stores selling the brand you have to have a receipt showing it was bought from that store/chain. IMO the warranty and ease of replacement was Craftsman's biggest selling point.

That’s not totally true. It depends on the tool.

Most of the mechanics tools and some other hand tools still have lifetime warrantees and can be exchanged at any stocking retail partner without receipt.
(In my area, both Lowes and Ace are stocking retail partners)

Here’s the link that specifies what the warrantee is on what tools, and how to exchange it.

We only have one Sears store left in the region and they've gotten real snotty about replacing worn out tools. I had a drill replaced a few months after I bought it and they claimed that replacing it voided the warranty .... even though I was able to get an email from Sear's corporate stating otherwise. Last time I was in there they were giving a guy flack that was trying to get a socket replaced. I haven't needed or tried to see how Lowes does.

If you hit the where to buy link at the bottom of the warrantee page, it takes you here.

The 4 names/logos are (I presume) Craftsman’s stocking retail partners.

Sears is notably, not among them.
I’d wager that treatment at Sears is getting worse, not better.
