Need recommendation on multimeter

I am needing a new multimeter. My klein mm500 quit on me. Shows voltage all the time. Traded out batteries and still doing it. So time to replace.

I would like something comparable if possible. I like the auto ranging and only 2 buttons to turn it on.

All I use it for is to test for live circuits on 120-240volt, and test 24volt on furnaces. And I use the continuity tester a lot also. So basic functions really.

What do you suggest?

I'm partial to the cheap analog meters - they work well for a dummy like me. I've never had much luck with digital meters although I've never used one of the high quality ones.

Re: Need recommendation on multimeter

Lot of good choices out here. But I would make the new meter a combo volt/ammeter. Many DIY'ers do not realize that an ammeter can and should be used a LOT when troubleshooting. Get the two for one features when buying MM's. IMO.

Re: Need recommendation on multimeter

I agree with Mark in regard to inexpensive analog meters. They're as reliable as anything, and, for some things, like say checking resistance across a suspect lawn mower coil or clutch, I will take an analog meter over a digital one every time. I have a couple of Fluke meters that I use for identifying and verifying problems or potential problems on equipment I deal with through work, checking current draw on larger motors, etc., but for my own home, vehicles, etc., more often that not I grab one of a couple inexpensive analog meters that I have. The ones I currently have are Gardner Benders I think, but there any number of ones out there to choose from.

Re: Need recommendation on multimeter

Fluke T5-600 is comparable, but it's hard to beat the simplicity of your Klein. Might as well get another one perhaps?

Sperry Instruments DM6250 is also comparable.
