My new toy Metabo HPT Router set

I have had a Craftsman router for a couple of decades. It still works but, I have wanted a plunge router for a long time. And the plunge router from Craftsman doesn't fit my old router.

I have looked and looked and they all have their pro's and con's. Mostly the prices being the con's in my book.

The Porter Cable unit, the Dewalt unit and the Ridgid unit have caught my eye, all in the 2 1/4 hp range. Just waiting for them to go on sale.

One day, while going tool lusting, er I mean, browsing, I came across the Metabo/Hitachi Router set. The reviews were pretty good, the same as the three I had my eye on. Once you cast the haters and lovers aside, you can get some real honest reviews.

The one thing that really captured my attention on the Metabo Router set was the price point. $139. Yep, $60 cheaper than the DeWalt and Ridgid units. And it came with a hard case.

So, after asking for permission from my wife, I ordered it. And it came today. It looks beautiful. I can't wait to get it Dirty.

The unit is now $180 and is still a good price.

Here is a picture of my shiny new toy:

Never seek permission. First thing is to burn the box it came in. Then rub dirt all over it and the carrying case. That way she'll always think you had it a long time. Works for me.

Re: My new toy Metabo HPT Router set

I would have, but she saw me looking at it. And since I don't drive, we have to get things delivered.

The damn dogs let her know when the UPS guy comes so she sometimes beats me to the door .

But, I do take care of all the bills, and she doesn't even look anymore, so I do get to sneak some things in.

I just have to make sure I get to the door first. When I hear the dogs bark, I try and head out through the garage when I know a package I want to hide is coming.
