Karcher pressure washer - 2400

Hi all,

My pressure washer kept surging - that is - the pressure would cut in and out - almost rhythmically- when I held down the trigger. I took the pump apart and replaced the unloader valve and a few of the other valves inside (not all). Anyway - it solved the problem. I only had one nozzle that came with the washer - itís old. So I bought new nozzles. The new nozzles have the same surging issues - but the old nozzle does not, it works perfectly. When it surges, it is a regular pulse and I can see and hear the engine pulse as well. The governor moves with each pulse. If i stick to the original green nozzle back on the wand though it works perfectly. if I use any other nozzle I get this issue. Any thoughts??
Thanks,
Greg

Check the filter on the incoming hose connection.

Iíll check it out. I could t get that piece off before and was afraid I was going to break it. Iíll try again. Itís just weird to me that the original nozzle works flawlessly but none of the new ones do. The old one is green -Even the new green nozzle that came in the pack causes the issue, but the original green nozzle doesnít.

What you described is a shortage of water, unless you are not turning the water on full blast, the filter is the only thing that come to mind. Perhaps the older nozzle may also be plugged with some build up. Just guessing.

The new nozzles are the wrong ones for the washer. Are they Karcher nozzles rated for your machine?

Those electric pressure washers don't have the power that a gas pressure washer has not matter what you do.

Re: Karcher pressure washer - 2400

The nozzles are rated for up to 4300psi. This is an old gas pressure washer rated for 2400 psi. Since the nozzles said ďup to 4300 psiĒ I figured they would work. These nozzles came with a gun and the package said ďup to 4300.Ē There were no choices for other guns and since mine isnít above 4300 psi it seemed like it should be fine. Note - the old green nozzle works perfectly in this gun/wand.

I think it has to do the volume of water the nozzle allows to flow. The pump can't supply enough water and build enough pressure.

So all that means is that these nozzles will not blow up if run at 2400 RPM. Does not mean it has the correct size orifice for your application.

I read through that but it didnít explain why the original nozzle works and the new ones donít. It makes more sense that the nozzles arenít compatible, but I canít find nozzles that only do 2400 psi. Most do a range above to be more marketable I suppose. Iíll keep looking online to see. I have the original green one that works so I can use it for now but it would be better if I could use the other ones. Plus, I am just plain curious as to what the issue is. Iílol get some penetrating oil and let it sit on the connection containing the filter so I can loosen it and inspect the filter as well.
