Xmas flood lights

How should an outdoor flood light be positioned in order to have the lights look as good as possible? Away from the home 5-7 feet or next to the home 2-3 ft?

I saw these 10w led flood lights, but didn't know how many I would need and the cost. They look great though.

How far away they are positioned depends on what you are trying to eliminate and how wide of a spread the bulbs you are using have. It also depends on how many lumens the bulbs put out. Brighter bulbs obviously can be placed farther away from what you are illuminating. We use some low-voltage halogen bulbs for outdoor illumination for some Christmas items and they are placed about 10-12 feet away from what they are illuminating.

Opinions?
I have 2 halogen floodlights on the right side. 1 green, 1 red. The red seems to put out more light than the green overall. Should I add more or leave as is?
