Wood Stove Installation

I need some informational help on installing woodstoves.

I own a former church building which I have been fixing up/converting into a home. It has a concrete basement floor...basement ceiling is about eight feet high and the ceilings upstairs are about twenty five feet high. After that...an attic space of about six feet before the roof.
Obviously lots of pipe needed.

I have heard that I do not need to have insulated pipe until I meet and go through the ceilings, the attic area and through/above the roof.
Does anyone know for sure?

Also...if I decided to keep the stove itself in the basement, do I need to put down heat retardant bricks or green board underneath since it will sit on a concrete floor?

Thanks...

As to your second question, you don't need to do anything if the stove is sitting on a concrete floor. As to the first, I'd suggest you check with your local inspectors or someplace in your area that sells/installs stoves. There are pretty strict code requirements (for obvious reasons) for running stovepipe through interior partitions like walls and floors.

Uninsulated stove pipes and wood do not mix. Code aside, I would never run a hot pipe through a wooden wall. I'd suggest you also see hearth.com for any questions you may have, this one and others.
