Showers caulking as maintenance item?

Just want to get your opinion about the showers caulking,
Do you cut them out and re-caulk every so often as maintenance item OR re-caulk when have issue/crack/leak?
Thanks in advance.

If it is clean and still adhering, no need to do anything with it. If it is pulling up or mold is growing under it it's time to pull it up, clean the area, and re-apply. Generally I find if it is good stuff applied properly you should only have to mess with it every couple years or so.

I replace the silicone caulking on my acrylic Jacuzzi tub/acrylic shower tub
enclosure each year. The caulk usually starts separating after a year or so and it starts discoloring also. When you do this every year you get pretty good at it.

So, you are doing it as a maintenance item then.

Both I guess. It needs recaulking with the separation and the recaulking does freshen it up.

Thanks. Over the years I've tried various latex caulks and silicone caulks for this. The one caulk that has worked the best and shows the brightest white is the GE 100% Silicone I. I pull the old silicone off, wipe the area down with Isopropyl alcohol, apply the silicone as light as possible, then smooth it out with a wet finger.
