Pop-up Ads are Out of Control

Anyone else getting those annoying full screen pop-up ads when on DIY Chatroom. I did a malware scan and didn't find any on my mac. I hope it's not the new standard for ads.

Re: Pop-up Ads are Out of Control

DIY has no control over the ads to my understanding so I run the "ghost"....the end of stress related ads for me.

Re: Pop-up Ads are Out of Control

Between the settings on a modern browser, and a few key extensions (like Ghostery, mentioned above) that should never happen. It's ironic that the purveyors of ads have made them so annoying that we have to find a way to block them. I'd be fine with non-intrusive, silent, and non-animated ads. Anything that talks, sings, flashes or takes over any important part of the page is unacceptable. And doing those things will never get me to buy a product. Quite the opposite.

Re: Pop-up Ads are Out of Control

Chris, oddly, the forum does not disdain the use of Ad Blocking software, like Brand X forums does. It was a thorn in the craw of the Administrator that got me banned. I didn't kowtow to his wishes and he had ultimate control, so here I am, enjoying another forum setting with much less BS.

The way I see it, and always have, it is the right of the forum or advertisers to post advertisements. It is my right not to see them, and any means possible is within those rights. I just wish there were a program for Ipad.

Re: Pop-up Ads are Out of Control

Funny this should come to the forefront right now. I recently recommended the site to a friend and brother did I get an ear full!

Ads continually loading causing what he was trying to read to jump up, down or off the screen. Said he would never sign up. I didn't understand, so I stopped by his place and saw what he was talking about. Without serious ad blocking he was exactly right! I tried to explain the concept (didn't have my laptop with me) but he was far too irritated by his experience to listen.

After experiencing the site without ad blocking, how do they expect to get people sign up? Seems self-defeating to me.

Also makes me appreciate my ad blocker.
