Old coal furnace

Hi, I have an old Luxaire coal furnace that needs some repairs. I patched a few holes on the upper side of the furnace and some cracks across the top. I used Rutland furnace cement to seal the patch repairs and cracks. Is the cement safe to use on the furnace. I'm concerned that with the high temps of a coal furnace it may release toxic fumes from the cement?
Thank you
Ray

Re: Old coal furnace

Assuming it is a coal "furnace" and not a supplementary stove, I would assume it is really old. Holes and cracks in the metal suggest that it is getting thin. Combustion gases and heating/cooling will slowly wear away at the metal. One big concern should be CO entering the living space. It was never likely very tight to start with.
Depending on your location, sourcing coal must be a treat.
Windows on Wash likes this.
