leaking wood beams

my house has telephone pole sized wooden beams that are half inside and half outside the west wall of the house. below them is the basement and i am now getting leaking water into the basement after heavy wind-blown rain. i have caulked all around the suspect areas and by using a water hose outside i have found that the water seems to be coming from areas of the beams that have small hair-line cracks in the wood. is there a way and a product to seal these cracks by myself and repaint ? thanks

The changing seasons will expand and contract the beams making new checks to wick the water inside: http://www.sciencebuddies.org/scienc...Bio_p033.shtml
You have to remember--- it's from a tree which feeds the leaves water and nutrients-- it's made to transport liquid. Try a penetrating water-proofer outside with sunblock.

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?
