Kwikset Doorknob/Lever Removal

Hi, I'm new to posting in the forums so sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I have a Kwikset lever exterior door handle and an odd situation. The company told me it is impossible for the hex screw that holds on the handle to be lost and the handle would never stay on without it. However, it is missing and the handle is locked on. Has anyone ever had this problem before? Also, the 3/32" hex on the other side is mostly stripped, any tips on dealing with that or am I going to have to drill this?

Thanks!

Sure it was not a metric screw?
And there right without the screw in place the handle should not stay on.

Do you know the model name or number of your lockset ?
On many of them, the exterior handle is part of an assembly, even if the handle happened to get drilled with the set screw hole. With this style you need to remove the interior handle and ring, and the mounting screws to remove the exterior handle assembly.

Post photos of the lock, inside and out.
