i need ideas!!!

I'm nearing the end of my sons bedroom remodel. And have been trying to ignore this eyesore but it seems the wife let me leave it alone. Its a cover for the air return and its galvanized. She wants to paint it but I hate paint. I have thought about covering it with a 1/8 inch mdf but don't know how that would work.

1/8" MDF or any ply material that thin for that matter doesn't have a lot of stability as far as bending. Now that you have all of your trim and flooring installed up to the plenum, framing it out get a lot more involved. I would just mask around it, get some metal primer on it and paint it like your wife wants. If you are set on covering it, I'd use at least 1/2 inch cabinet ply or MDF.

I also thought about doing a "built in" corner shelving unit. And covering it that way. "Nothing to it but to do it" for cutting trim. The wood costs me nothing. My other idea was to glue the 1/8 inch mdf directly to the metal.

That does nothing to eliminate the eyesore imo.

A corner desk as mentioned with shelves above is what I'd do. Turn that wart into a functional space.

As I tell my wife all the time, "I am loaded with ideas.........mostly bad ones." But these guys seem to be shooting straight on the desk idea.

I think I would grab a couple of base cabinets and a nice looking counter top and put a home made desk right there.
