Humidifier Install not Working

Hi -

I recently noticed my home humidifier was not working, it was an old Carrier. I replace the solenoid, the humidistat (even though I knew it was ok) and the circuit board. Nothing worked, so I purchased a new one from Carrier. It showed up and is a Totaline. I installed it just as the old one was installed and it does not work either.

The new humidistat work when I turn it to a high setting so I believe that part is working. I know it is getting water because it drips if I loosen the connection. Why is the fan not turning on and the solenoid not valve not getting power? Is it a wiring issue?

I didnít rewire anything from the previous installation and it is connected to a Trane XL which does not appear to have the HUM and C terminals that are shown on the wiring instructions. Does anyone have any ideas? I believe all of the low voltage wiring is correct but maybe it is not connected to the XL80 correctly?

Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

Steve

Is it getting power? Test this with a multimeter. If you do not know how to do that, call a technician. (Or learn to use a multimeter by searching for how to on google.com.)

Re: Humidifier Install not Working

I know about zero on hvac, but mine was tied to the furnace. In fact, humidifier was plugged to an outlet that got power from the furnace, so that when furnace turned on, humidifier got power. I removed the humidifier because controlling the bacteria looked like a problem, but later used the outlet to power makeup air fan.
So your problem may be the furnace. You can get a cheap lighted current tester and see if your humidifier wires get power when the furnace turns on. Beyond that, you should call the hvac tech. Your gas or oil company may have such a service. You may have a contract. Call and find out.

Re: Humidifier Install not Working

Thank you very much for the replies. I did test the low voltage wires and was getting 24v to the humidifier. Also, the outlet that is wired to the furnace is "hot" when the furnace kicks on. My thoughts are that the wiring in the furnace is bad such that it doesn't properly call for humidity?

Does anyone have experience in wiring the humidistat to the furnace?

Thanks again,
Steve

if this humidifier has an AIR tube that runs to the supply or return, then make sure it is attached properly or not blocked. Some model have something like that that senses air moving and then turns on the water flow.
