How to Clamp a Door?

I have to shave down a door. I have a hand plane to shave it, but it would have to be clamped really well. Pretty sure it has to come off the hinges so I have room to plane the bottom. How can I hold it in place?

Re: How to Clamp a Door?

What do you have to clamp it?

A few pipe clamps on the opposite side, running both ways from the door, would hold it.

A Workmate would hold it, Some hand screw clamps , one on each end.

What you got?

Re: How to Clamp a Door?

I have some various c-clamps and bar clamps. I guess I just don't know what to clamp it to that would be heavy enough.

The step-bumper on your pick-up?

A heavy piece of equipment, look around your work space.

Re: How to Clamp a Door?

It's time to purchase at least 2 Quick Grip clamps.

Lay the door on a side edge down with the bottom end extended out into a door opening, elevate it to a comfortable working height for planing and clamp it to the casing/trim. i.e. clamp it to a wall. I would use some of my rubber shelf liner on jobs like that.

Clamped it right on the edge of the trim. I knocked the clamps off a few times, but I made it work. Thanks.
