Hanging wall cabinets on metal studs??

Can I hang wall cabinets (going all the way to the ceiling) on metal studs or should I rip the sheet down and replace with wooden studs?

Wall cabinets are going from Wall A to Wall B.

Thanks!

Don't know if you need to do anything, but if you do I'd suggest just
cutting "windows" and inserting plywood strips about 1/2"x3"x 15".
Mount each horizontally with 2 drywall screws.

The cupboards will cover the window so need to patch.

If metal studs are okay in commercial settings, I don't see why they won't be okay in residential settings. Plenty of things are hung in stores.

Worked in retirement home with steel studs a few years back. Part of
drywallers contract was installation of backing for kitchen cupboards
before the drywall went on.

If the backing didn't cover the entire wall, how could the drywall be hung evenly? How thick was it?

Strips of backing (cut same length as stud center-center) running between
the studs, flush with front. This is same as I've occasionally seen done
in wood framing but not as easy to mount.

Thanks, since I don't do commercial work, I'll never have to deal with it.

Great tip Code!

While I have your attention, I need to move 3 different circuits from Wall A to Wall B. Major appliances on that wall will be dishwasher and fridge. Then all the other crap people plug into the kitchen wall.

Any tips?

Wall B has a new dedicated 240V outlet for the wall oven.

Gas cooktop is going on the island which has electrical coming up and out of the floor.

Re: Hanging wall cabinets on metal studs??

Oh man I must be tired, I forgot to ask my question. Is the best way to reroute that wiring to cut the sheetrock at base moulding height and reroute from A to B? I can use my fishing rods to Fish vertically once I get to the correct horizontal location.

And Code - it didnít even think that far ahead. Yeah Iíll have to leave cover plates on the 3 existing outlets.

Iíll probably put two floor outlets on Wall A.

Re: Hanging wall cabinets on metal studs??

Wall B is 2 layers of sheetrock. So Iíll look for or rip cut 1 /14Ē wood strips.

Typos probably obvious but this should have read:
The cupboards will cover the window so NO need to patch. -DOH!

Probably, but without being there it's hard to say.

French cleat screwed into metal studs would also work.
