Question

Hang ladder etc from cinder block

Garage has cinder block walls. I want to hang a 6ft step ladder and a few misc tools (leaf blower etc)
I am afraid that if I just use tapcons into L brackets they may eventually loosen up.

Someone mentioned using either 2 2x4s or a 2x6, apply a concrete to wood type of adhesive, then use tapcons to attach the wood to the blocks while the adhesive dries. Bolt hooks into the 2x4s. This would spread the weight over multiple blocks.

Does this sound like the best plan ?

Tapcons are totally unsuitable for use with cinder block. The block is simply too crumbly. Even those cheap plastic anchors work better!

If you're hanging stuff that will be held by #8 screws, the simple plastic anchors are fine.

If you're using anything larger, I'd use sleeve anchors like these:

Tapcons are cheap and easy, but if you just need a few of them, why don't you use some expanding anchors or lag shields?

How does this sound ?

4 bolts in each of 2 four foot 2x4s, coating the back of the 2x4s with sika construction adhesive attach to cinder block

Then use various hooks to hang a 6' step ladder and a few other misc tools.

Do you drill into the solid part of the cinder block or in the middle ?

How far should the fasteners go into the cinder block

I would run two 2x4's up to the ceiling joists and down to 4 or 5 feet high, and then attach a 2x6 eight feet long and horizontal to them, and use that board for various hooks and tool hangers.
