Garage Ceiling Repair? How to fireproof?

I've had water damage...tub leaked down through garage ceiling, destroying drywall on the bottom of a chase holding ductwork etc. It was previously insulated and drywalled, with a popcorn finish.

Can I replace just the bottom of this "dropped down" area...think it's called a chase....with some kind of fire-rated plywood and insulation instead of drywall? If so, how would I make it up to code?

Thanks!

Has the leak been fixed?
No such thing as fire proof plywood and not even sure why you would want to use it instead of 5/8 drywall.

Why do you want plywood vs drywall? Is it because you want something more water-resistant?

Consider that if there was something more water-resistant than drywall there, the water may have built up to the point where greater damage was done. Consider also that plywood is more difficult to finish than drywall.

Just use fire rated drywall.
