Door Locks

I saw this on another forum "he who should not be mentioned"....

I think it's an outstanding idea....

One suggestion is to replace your locking door knobs with passage knobs. Passage knobs do not have locks, so that you can never accidentally lock yourself out (pushing or twisting the lock on the inside of the door and walking outside and closing the door behind you). All the security is provided by the deadbolt and since you lock it from the outside you never lock yourself out.

Yep, do this on all of my rentals. Used to do the combo locking knob/dead bolt. Probably had to do at least one lockout call per week. Totaly eliminated that problem.

My own house is a bit different. I have a hidden door button for the garage door opener. It is tucked up under the siding somewhere around the house.

or you could buy a house like mine that still have a mortised skeleton key'd door lock :p and the ONLY way to lock the door is by using one of those deadbolts that mount on the back of the door!

Thanks for sharing!!! Great idea...
