Contact cement shelf life?

Need some contact cement for some smaller projects. 3oz. is about $7, and 36 oz. is about $15. If I get the big can, does it keep well? Thanks!

If you keep them well sealed, I have had some last for several years. That said, I would only order what you will reasonably use this go around.

In a metal can, solvent based cement, it gets thicker (I guess losing the solvent?) but still useable. But it rolled less smoothly, leaving small globs. There are contact cements in small tubes but these were good for about few months in storage once open.

That's the risk. Dry globs of contact cement will frequently transmit a visible defect (bump) that may be visible through laminate or other thin material.

So don't even think of re-using a brush or roller that had been used for contact cement. I buy some cheap 4" foam rollers when gluing laminate.

In my experience the life in the can once opened is related to empty amount of the can; the more air in the can the quicker is goes bad. Really long term storage isn't practical.

Some thing you have to buy in smaller quantities.

It doesn't store well. Just buy what you think you'll use. Besides, it's cheap.
