Chinese Quartz countertop vs European quartz

I am doing my sink side countertop with quartz. There is a huge price dispartiy between Chinese quartz and European (regular??) quartz for similar colors and styles. Chinese is like $36/sq ft vs $75 in the New York metro area. This is inclusive of materials, templating, fabricating and installing.

When the Chinese first started making quartz there were quality control issues. Iíve read the Chinese quartz might absorb stains more readily than non Chinese quartz (european) years ago. Does anyone have an opinion on how Chinese quartz stands up today to staining, wear and tear, and chipping. The price difference provides a potential huge savings.

The store doesnít have a sample for me to take home and test.

Re: Chinese Quartz countertop vs European quartz

I can't speak to the Chinese stuff, but Cambria (actually US made) had to pass my test before I bought it.

Shop owner got real nervous when I asked if he needed the sample back in the same condition, but he let me borrow it anyways.

Red wine, balsamic vinegar, vegetable oil will not stain it. It passed the test.

How much per sq ft?

Iím gonna bring some balsamic to the showroom and douse the Chinese quartz.

Not a great test if you leave it on for a couple of minutes. I left my test staining agents on the quartz for three days.

You need to get a local price, but its was not cheap.

Re: Chinese Quartz countertop vs European quartz

I was at the National Builders Show a few years back. I was walking out when the show was breaking down on the last day. Walked past a kitchen bathroom booth that was a vendor from China. They leave all of the sinks, toilets etc... behind because of shipping costs and the workers at the show toss them.
The goods looked just like the ones in the US. I stopped and picked up a sink to take a closer look. Was so light it would not even make a good paper weight.
I would want to see a sample of whatever you think you want to buy before you commit to a purchase.
Just because the products may look similar does not mean they are.
