Re: Carpentry Question How to Custom build 'drawer door'???

I had a hard time following your description, since I need to see pictures to understand, but would these work?

I had these in front of my kitchen sink before. With a small tray you could have a storage area for utensils or somehting.

Good recommendation from droptopz, but when I used to work at a cabinet shop we would have used something from Blum, Salice, etc. that would be rated for a lot higher duty cycles. K&V has some pretty innovative stuff from time to time, but they don't always strike me as long lasting/high quality.

We used these frequently from Blum, but since it is below an oven you're not going to want the door to lift, but rather drop.

I do see a decent looking style of flap hinge on Salice's site, may need to be adapted for a face frame cabinet but I'm sure it would last a lot longer than K&V for that heavy of a door.

If it were me, though, I'd really push for a drawer with full extension undermount slides, and make the box nearly as high as the opening. How many times is she likely to bend down and reach all the way to the back of that space anyway? A drawer would seemingly be a lot more functional as it would be accessed more frequently.

I agree. She will get the look she wants. I did a similar option to our camper. We used that drawer more than before I made it.

I've taken those off for paint jobs many times and they don't pull down to a 90 degree making it difficult to use as storage. I actually have a pretty good idea what to do but am really busy with two other major jobs.

As for the one's from Blum and Salice, the latter looks like a good fit.

We were needing phone book storage, of all things, about 30 years ago so I built this and installed under the counter on the bar stool and phone side. Simple butt hinges and a magnetic latch. It may or may not spark some ideas to solve the delima.
