Buzzing doorbell

What would cause a wired doorbell to buzz? Not constantly, just now and again (wife's complaing)? Is the transformer failing? Or do I have an intermittent short?

Re: Buzzing doorbell

A stuck switch at a door.

Usually the back door switch.

Re: Buzzing doorbell

Only one, push-button, switch at the front door. Tried it, doesn't appear to be sticking.

Re: Buzzing doorbell

You need to wait until it buzzes, then check to see if the switch has stuck.

They accumulate dust and junk inside that makes the thing stick partway on, thus causing BUZZING.

And if so, it is wore out, replace to make SWMBO happy.

I have seen it from time to time.

Re: Buzzing doorbell

Is the doorbell button illuminated? If so, disconnect it and see if the humming stops. Could be a bad bulb.

Re: Buzzing doorbell

No bulb.
Tried the button while it was buzzing this AM. Still buzzed after that. Finally pulled the cover off the chime. Then it would still buzz just not as obvious. Isn't buzzing at the moment. Can't account for why it starts nor why/how it stops.
