Best rot resistant material submerged in water?

Cleaning out the bio filter and I swore that if I ever had to take all those lava rocks out again I would find a way to bag em'.

I wanted to use stainless steel chicken wire like they do along the sides of the highways but I can't find in in less than 150' roll for a nice chunk of change.

I doubt that polypropylene bags would stand up. I can find nylon bags but I don't know how that will fare submerged in water.

If you wanted to submerge lava rocks in water what would you use?

I'm open to suggestions no matter how off the wall you might think they are.

Google Hail Screen or Hardware Cloth. My local ACE Hardware has smaller rolls of differing mesh.
