Bad tiling and grout job

Need some advise. Had a contractor do a couple jobs on my house under a 203k. The tiling job in my opinion is sub-par. We are currently holding the other check from him and he is threating to place a lien on our property. Am I just being picky about the job or is this bad workmanship. I have a lawyer and I'm ready to pull the trigger but I dont want to end up in a large legal battle unless I think its justifiable. Any input is appreciated in advance. IMO, the tile job is "passable", but the grout job sucks. Document everything and give him every opportunity to make it right.

It looks amateurish to me.

What's with the one rounded tile at the bottom where the shower stall is, and the vent area needs a better fitting, and the thin strips in the top at the ceiling shows a lack of proper layout planning.

Next comes the sloppy grouting.

Give them time, and be courteous, until you slap a lawyer on them.

The second picture, with the rubber ducky --- is that inside a shower? Inside corner should be caulked. Caulk at change of plane.

Agree that thin strips at top shows poor planning, but is there more to the story, such that that something would need to end up with thin strips ?

Re: Bad tiling and grout job

I have white subway tile in my bath rm. I originally wanted a dark grout although I was a little leery that it might not look right with my limited tile skills. When I realized that the ceiling wasn't level I decided to go with white grout - it hides imperfections while a contrasting color accents them.

The thin tile at the top shows poor planing - should have split the difference with the bottom row of tile. While it's a passable diy job, I would have expected better from a pro.

I agree with the others, looks like a DIY job. Whenever I see work like this in a shower, I always wonder what they did underneath to waterproof the shower. Grouting could probably be cleaned up. They make subway tile in larger sizes than 3" x 6". Maybe get the next larger width and replace the skinny row on top and the row beneath it.
