It doesn't matter if it's attached or not...as far as the inside goes.

If you already have an existing garage with drywall up....not as much flexibility. If bare studs....now we can have some fun.

A few points.

You never have enough room.

You never have enough storage

You never have enough outlets.

You never have enough lighting.....until you add more.

If you have bare studs....run a bunch more outlets. Say 6' apart...52" from the floor. That way you can lean a 4x8 sheet against the wall and not cover them up.

Look for CL adds where someone is giving away kitchen cabinets. Paint them and they now become garage cabinets.

Purge. If you move something 3 times in a year and don't have a specific use for it. Get rid of it.

Lighting....2 stages. The first is just to let you move around the garage without tripping. The second is so you can do detailed work. I used 16 6" recessed cans. I do woodworking and I didn't want to have anything hanging down.

Organize.

Rolling tool box. Keep an eye out for someone upgrading. A good roll-around with a box on top will make your life much nicer....and organized.

These are my cabinets....recycled doors

None of my lower cabinets touch the floor.....makes it easier to clean.

A rare picture.....the garage will NEVER look like that again.

I have airline drops all over...including this reel at the front of the garage.

One very important detail you should mention. Do you park cars in your garage like me, or use the garage for something entirely different like the post above?
