Being a homeowner is often expensive, so if you are able to make simple repairs yourself you can save a lot of money. Unfortunately, not all repairs are DIY-friendly and not all of them are cheap. If you are DIY savvy and not afraid of heights, you might be able to make some repairs to a leaky roof.
Simple Tips for Patching a Leaky Roof
Are you, as a DIYer, willing to patch roof leaks or is this something you use a professional for?

I'm not a fan of working on a roof.

Re: Do YOU Patch Your Own Roof Leaks

Senior beats me by a long shot on age, but just the same, I gave up climbing on roofs over a decade ago.

I did however, a few years ago, patch a roof leak that was close enough to the eaves, to be able to reach from an extension ladder. Lasted long enough for me to find a contractor to replace the roof the next spring. (Shingles were about 20 years old, but still had life in them, but that was second roof penetration that had known sealing issues.)

Yes...I'm 66 and I patch my own roof because I did residential roofing for almost 30 years and wouldn't trust anybody else to do it. But my roof is a one story 4/12 pitch with a 1/12 back porch I can access from.

Re: Do YOU Patch Your Own Roof Leaks

I would replace my roof before it gets to leaking. But if it was damaged somehow(storm, tree branch) and only needed a patch, I would do that.
Replace the whole roof when needed is too big a job for me.

Re: Do YOU Patch Your Own Roof Leaks

I'd make my own repairs both because I feel confident in doing it right and too cheap to pay someone. If I had to replace the entire roof I'd enlist one or more of my sons to help.
