What could this be?

Was outside in my yard and noticed a random, strange object hanging off of the siding near my roof. At first it looked like someone shot an arrow at my house.

After investigating, it appears to be a thin metal wire/tube that is flexible. It could possibly be coming out through the attic and out the siding. Could it be something related to the furnace/AC coil which are in the attic?

I have attached a pic.

Have you tried to see it from the inside?

Not yet, that is the next step, to go up into the attic.

If you don't know how your evaporator drains, that might be it. You should have noticed water dripping from it when the AC runs. On the other hand it could be the emergency overflow from the evaporator and it drains some other way.

There is already a line running from the AC evaporator, down the siding, that drains near the house.

Also, this mystery object doesn't seem like it is a tube, seems more like a wire, like a bare ground wire (but it is hard to see exactly what it looks like).

Re: What could this be?

I finally have resolution to this. The HVAC guys, when installing the AC, drilled a hole and put a metal wire through to see where the lines could potentially come out the attic through the siding. That first hole was way off from where it should have been so they left the hole with the wire in place and moved on to drilling the hole in the final location.

I would have preferred they plug it also, just shows that extra bit of care.
