Vinyl Siding Help?

Hi folks, I've just finished installing a new door that leads out to my deck via 3 stair treads. The door thatI replaced had some water damage under the threshold that let to it being replaced. I dont think the original installation addressed shedding the water properly. My question is what the heck to do with the area below the door.

Previously, there was a 5/4 x 6 peice of cedar under the sill of the door for support screwed directly to the sheathing (no vinyl siding under). Then below that was a 2 x 3 cca ledger board that the stairs were screwed to. This was lagged into the sill plate, this time through the siding.

I'd like it to be done properly this time. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I've attached photos that show the stairs sitting next to the area in question.

Should I have installed a pan under the door? Would formed aluminum be acceptable?

A kick plate would be only about 5 1/2 " high. What to do with the area below that(behind stairs) which is another 5"?

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

You could try something like this...

This is what I did for my new sliding patio door install. These steps were with the house when we bought it and I decided to keep them until I get time to put in a new deck. The kick board is PVC 1x4 under the door, then a piece of PT 2x6 under that, I think it was, and the steps were attached to this ledger board.
