Shower bench and pony wall

Hi all,

I'm looking to build a shower bench and pony wall in my shower. The drywall was just done.

For the bench I was planning on 2x4 construction with 3/4 plywood on the top and front. It's going to be 12" in depth so I was going to slope it 1/4" towards the front.

I have a few questions:
1) Do I need to cut back the existing densshield where the bench is going to go or can it stay? Does it hurt leaving it besides taking up a little space?

2) Can I put the densshield on top and the front of the plywood? I read that this is rated for floors so I think it will cover the weight no problem.

3) Would it be better to use something like liquid nails to attach the densshield to the top and front of the bench to avoid penetrations?

4) Do I need to tape the seams or anything? I was planning on just using redgaurd and apply 3 or 4 coats to make sure its all sealed up.

I plan on having a tile guy come in and do the pan liner and tile. Not going to try that myself.

Re: Shower bench and pony wall

I thought the pan liner was the first thing you do before sheeting the walls.
Do not use flat bottom gables with scissor trusses.
