RSJ too short, help what to do?

So hands up, I've made a monumental f**k up...

Installing my first RSJ and all was going well until I realised it was too short.

It's a 152x152x37 and should be 4280mm long, however when I ordered I put 4028mm so I'm exactly 200mm short and yes I know I'm an idiot!

Anyway, I need to resolve it so my question is can I have it extended in any way by welding the missing 200mm onto the end? Would building regs approve this?

If so any idea what it would cost to get a fabricator out to do it?

Or am I just better off writing it off as a big mistake (and lesson) and buying a new one? It was around 250.

Is it likely that the steel firm will buy it back?

Thanks in advance...

For all the people here that don't use metric.

4280mm =14 feet
200 mm = 7.8 inches

I don't see why a certified welder couldn't do a penetration weld and add the 8 inches. Maybe a plate across the joint after the weld for reinforcing. I have no idea of the cost or if it would be allowed.

Call the inspecting agency an plead insanity. No, call a structural engineer and explain the same way you did here, See what they say.

Your supplier should be able to weld it.

I had a bent beam delivered and the company said welding was no issue but I insisted on new. If I ordered it short, I would have accepted the welding offer because that would have been my fault.
