Reducing width of metal panel garage door

Hello,

I am in search of some advise for a metal raised panel garage door I am contemplating for my pole barn. The door is 9'h x 16' w......the opening I am covering is 9'h x 14' w.....therefore I need to know the best way to take 2' out of the width, even prior to purchase. It is a craigslist special that I have found for my boyfriend's pole barn, which has needed a door for two years. The price is right. What is the best way to alter this door. BTW, he welds and builds and probably knows this himself, just want to make sure it is a doable thing before I get him excited about locating a great deal on a door. Many thanks for your advise

One way is to leave one foot inside the garage on each side. Set the rails one foot from the side of the opening. it would probably be easier to make the opening bigger than the door smaller.
Do you have a picture of the panels? Are they insulated?
