Thanks alot for the instructions and the drawing. I think you may have just saved my marrige.
This will be so helpful.. Do you have any opinion on my gable wall construction i described above. Instaed of using a rafter at the top of the gable wall, use a 2x6 flat, so that the gable studs come up an attached to the top 2x6, instaed of the rfter sitting on top of a stud that is 5 1/2" wide.

Any time. Us men have to stick together.

If your sheetrocking the ceiling, put the gable end rafter on just like the rest of the rafters. Nail a 2x6 flat on the inside of the gable rafter flush at the bottom. That will give you 7". Nail your 2x6 gable studs flush with the outside of the gable rafter and that will leave you 1-1/2" of nailer for sheetrock.

If not you can do it the way you described.
