Plastic Vents - falling apart

My house is 6 years old and the plastic louvered vents that were installed (for the dryer, bathroom, etc.) are deteriorating. It is odd that all of them are failing at the same time as I would think the dryer would be the first to fail due to the moisture/steam and heat.

I can replace my dryer one without much of an issue because it I can access the backside of it through my crawl space. However, the bathroom backsides are behind finished walls/ceilings.

I've never replaced one of these before. Can all the work be done from the outside of the house? I'd like to get something better for keeping birds out and metal - if they make them.

Thanks.. I've been reading these forums a ton over the last few months and it has been extremely helpful!
