Outdoor Fireplace

About to pour concrete for an additional 100sf of uncovered patio that an insert stainless steel Lennox f/p will go. I was thnking that while pouring, I could also have them pour for the hearth. What are typical height and depth dimensions? I was thinking 16" high, plus a granite top makes about 17-18", but not sure about depth. Would like some hearth, maybe 12" in front of the f/p. Is that reasonable.

Thanks all, Tim in Houston

This is all subject to personal preference, but for me, aesthetically:

12" - 18" hearth height, with 15-16" being ideal IMO.

16-24" hearth depth, with the depth being 2-4" bigger than the height.

Width, a few inches narrower than the rest ot the FP veneer looks better IMO, or even 12"+ wider for a wrap around hearth.

Good luck and don't be afraid to post a few pictures of the project.

Is your recommendation for hearth depth mean in front of teh FP or total. 24" in front seems a lot

Thx

Remember, this is only opinion, but yes, the max. that I would/have gone is 24" in front of the fireplace. I actually looked at my own on my patio, and it's only about 12" or so. Not great for sitting on, but it works in proportion I guess because it's a wrap-around.
