Joist to beam attachment for deck.

The plans call for setting 2x8 joists on top of 6x6 beams and attaching with a A35 Simpson brackets. Do you need one bracket on each side of the joist or one side only? The span is short but with snow load the engineer called for this hefty structure. Thanks, Ken

The Simpson catalog shows one A35 connector for a joist to beam connection. The "Prescriptive Residential Wood Deck Construction Guide", IRC 2006 edition, shows one connector per joist is required (Figure 6, Option 2). However, the real answer is that you need to install as many hangers as the plans call for. If the plans do not specify how many hangers per connection, you should call the designer.
