Installing windows

I need to replace some windows in a building with vertical half logs. I purchased vinyl windows with nailing flanges. The top and bottom flange will rest against the radii of the logs but the vertical flanges will probably not touch the logs since they are not wide enough to reach the thickest part of the log.

sonds like you need to build a frame, like a box with no lid or bottom and set this in the opening then set your window in this.

Installing Windows

That was the approach I was considering. Since I purchased windows based on the R.O. my approach was to make a frame around the opening, install the window and trim it out. I originally planned on using 1" lumber but have been contemplating using 1/2" (probably will have to rip from plywood) to help minimize how thick the projecting surface will be from the face of the logs.
