Guess you can't do it in pieces....

How about 2x4 supports as you loosen/free it..... then stand back and knockout the 2x4's....????

It sounds like you need temporary supports of some sort. Pics would be good.

I finally got the picture to load. Yeah, i guess i'm going to build a temporary support. God, i wish people would use screws. It really doesn't cost that much more!!! OK, i'm going in. Wish me luck.

Re: Idea's required - How do i not have 1000lbs fall on me.

If it were my project and working alone I would use my favorite gadget...rope and pulley. First I would remove the floor sheathing. Then knock out the blocks between the joists. Fasten the rope pulley to the old joists above dead center lengthwise of the joists to be removed. (want the joist to balance when removed and hanging in the air)

Get the rope tied around the joist to be removed and pulled tight and then anchored to a riding mower or a fat man holding the rope, that can be trusted to not just walk away and let it fall. One 16 penny nail bent over the rope on the joist being dropped down to prevent slippage... is good.

Then, knock the joist loose from the stud on each end and then lower the loose joist down slowly which will probably lay on the door tracks, where it is as least more manageable. .

Gloves, eye protection and watchful eye for nails sticking out from the removed blocks and joists ! JMO

With a 2x4 from the ground beat the plywood up and loose and then take it down one sheet at a time and then go after the frame one piece at a time.

I would build two temporary walls perpendicular to the door. That will split the shelf into thirds. Cut in the direction of the temporary walls.

Youins must have plenty of money to toss away. Why chop up good 2"x 6" boards and toss them ?

Built my 10x16 building and used nothing but screws, rather than my framing nailer.

I wouldn't use screws if I owned a nailer.

Just a caution...... Screws and nails don't have the same engineering properties, and are not interchangable in many circumstances.

Screws can be darn convenient for certain projects, but most don't have the shear streanth of a framing nail.

Generally speaking, I would not frame with them.

just a comment.....

If only they had chossen 2x6's to place over my head in a span of 25 Feet!!! that would have not been to code, but i would have felt safe. No no no.. these geniuses used old pieces of 2x4 check out this photo and tell me you would leave that over your work space?
