Tom- Just to follow-up, do you then caulk the gap or not necessary?

Most of the caulk companies are asking for a 3/8" bead but that seems huge for a such a gap to be filled with caulk.

3/8 bead is different than a 3/8 gap

17,000 dryer fires a year, when did you last clean the inside of the dryer near motor or the exhaust ducting?

3.2.G Allow 1/8 inch gap between Hardietrim fascia and moulding to siding. From: http://lowes.jameshardie.com/homeown...al/default.htm
Remember to prime, paint, or smear caulking on any cut ends or rips as per manufacturer or void warranty. Slightly different installation instructions for different areas: http://www.jameshardie.com/homeowner...nkLapSiding.py

With big gaps, or dis-similar materials (cement siding and wood corners), pages 28 and 41- backer rod first: http://books.google.com/books?id=fDs...age&q=&f=false
