I currently have a 10x22 pressure treated deck. I plan on extending this out another 10 feet so it will be a 20x22 when completed. I also would like to build a shed style roof and attach it above the current deck. I have never done this and looking for some tips.
First I have a colonial house with clapboard and there would not be any obsructions. Here are some of my questions:
1) Any tips on how to attach the ledger board to the house? Should I connect it against the joist in between the main level and the top level?
2) If I plan on enclosing this sometime in the future what should I use as posts? Was assuming I would not use 4x4's and maybe 2x6's but not sure?
This sounds like an addition to the house. I would start by discussing the project with your local building inspector. Once roofed in, this may be considered habitable space, and the design requirements may be very different than those for a deck.
