![]() Help me ID the exterior section of my house.
As soon as i open the backdoor there's an existing covered (on top) 5ft x 5ft concrete area with a single beam in the opposite corner that hold up the roof.
Does anyone know what this section is called? A bay, pad, patio, etc? I'd like to enclose two sides to make it into a small room. Please help? |

I can point out a few things that are incorrect about the existing situation.....but what you call it is not important (although slab or patio would likely work). Easy approach blow PT two byes Ono the concrete, use them as bottom plates, and then just frame up....and yes, you will get a dozen reasons why you shouldn't do that here....but that is different than whether or not you CAN. Yup i plan on using 2x4 as bottom plate but i wont be attaching it to the cement via drilling. Instead the the vertical 2x4 on either side of the frame will be bolted or nail into the existing strucure of the house, provided if i can locatenthe studs.
About the pad, i guess it could be called a bbq area for the lack of a better word? |

I certainly wouldn't call it a bbq area, it's way too close to the house. I would just call it a concrete stoop or pad. It's really nothing functional at all, just a slightly raised concrete pad that is designed to help prevent dirt from coming into the home.
