Question

Helical piers & shallow bedrock

Are helical piers suited to foundation repair where the soil is over shallow bedrock?

A corner of our house has gradually settled over the last 10 years, causing stair step gaps/cracks in the brick/mortar outside, and cracks in the sheetrock inside. We have a quote from a reputable (BBB, Angie's List, etc.) foundation repair company to install three helical piers to lift and stabilize the concrete footing in that corner.

There is bedrock about 4 feet below the surface in that corner. So, most of the support for each pier will be provided by the bedrock, not the soil.

Either one would work in your situation, but helical piers are usually used where the composition of the soil is known, with push piers it doesn't make any difference.
